Exploring the Historical and Contemporary Experiences and Perspectives of the Canadian Jewish Community

The latest version of the grade six Ontario Social Studies curriculum provides opportunities for students to learn about the responses of the Canadian government to the Holocaust and the development of Canada’s responses to acts of hate and human rights violations. So, what does this mean for our Catholic students who will be engaging in learning with this curriculum? How will this learning help our students develop a more personal relationship with God and the teachings of Jesus Christ? How will a curriculum that examines how settler/newcomer communities, such as the Jewish community have contributed to the development of identities in Canada, help them live a life that is guided by the Gospel? The lessons provided in this document are intended to provide classroom teachers with opportunities to approach the new grade six Social Studies curriculum from a perspective that is distinctly Catholic. These lessons should not be seen as an end point to the new Social Studies curriculum. Rather, our hope is that they are viewed as launching off points for classroom engagements that will be rich, relevant and engaging for students. Most importantly, we hope they serve to further support a better understanding of what it means to a Catholic in Canada.

In response to evolving educational needs, the 2024 edition of “Planting Seeds for Success: Exploring Learning Skills, Work Habits and Global Competencies from a Catholic Perspective”, now includes comprehensive guidance on fostering global competencies & transferable skills, promoting digital citizenship, and assessing 21st century skills. The links between the learning skills, global competencies and Catholic Graduate Expectations are organized in clear and concise charts that include assessment and reporting aides, like “look fors” and sample statements. Updated samples of learning skills report card comments have also been added for primary, junior and intermediate grades. This edition also incorporates multimedia elements such as videos and infographics, enhancing accessibility and engagement for educators. The overall goal of the resource remains the same- to continue supporting educators in implementing effective practices aligned with Catholic values, ensuring a holistic approach to student development in Ontario Catholic schools.

The original M3 - Creating a Collaborative Continuum resource was created in 2017 to support the need for improvement in the teaching and learning of mathematics.
Due to the recent changes in the Ontario mathematics curriculum, the tasks in the original resource have been updated to reflect all adjustments made to the overall and specific expectations. We have also included tasks that address the new financial literacy and coding expectations.

Our Language, Our Story is the Eastern Ontario Catholic Curriculum Corporation’s character development resource for Catholic teachers in the junior and intermediate divisions. It uses the Theological and Cardinal Virtues as points of reference for student learning and activities.

A Stewardship Approach to Curriculum K-6

In our Catholic schools, we work each day to respect God’s creation: animals, plants, the environment, humanity, and so on. We have environmental action clubs, recycling programs, greenhouses and community gardens, and we celebrate Earth Month and Earth Day every April.
This resource is meant as a starting point or a stepping-stone for teachers of Kindergarten and grade 1 to grade 6 to take learning outside and incorporate outdoor learning into day-to-day teaching and learning practices.

EOCCC Math Inquiry

Through engagement with professionals and teaching practitioners from eastern Ontario Catholic School Boards we hoped to deepen our understanding of planning for effective mathematics assessment and instruction as well as professional learning models that support planning for effective mathematics assessment and instruction.

This digital resource is the culmination of this work and provides artifacts of our learning to model and illustrate effective mathematics assessment and instruction, including the co-creation of success criteria and development of rich learning tasks.
