Project-Based Learning for
De-streamed Emerging Grade 9 Learners in Mathematics

This resource supports educators/teachers teaching the grade 9
de-streamed mathematics course and those who are interested in incorporating Project-Based Learning (PBL) tasks in their classrooms.
The projects in this resource promote student leadership, collaboration, innovation, creativity, problem solving and critical thinking, which the Ontario Ministry of Education identifies as important “transferable skills” that will prepare students for the future.

STEM-It-Up

for Grades 7 and 8

This resource contains 3 Inquiry Units which support the Ontario Science and Technology Curriculum (2023) designed around the Engineering Design Process, and honour Indigenous voices as integral to science learning.
Cross curricular connections are natural in inquiry and are denoted throughout. Using authentic sources, examples of how to weave Indigenous Knowledge throughout inquiry to enrich the learning is demonstrated. We enter this work through a Catholic lens and each inquiry provides opportunities for students to pray, reflect, discuss and act.

Our Language, Our Story; The Promise of Discipleship, Character Development Through the Virtues provides some rich activities and resources for the discussion of Virtue, Faith and Culture. The faith lessons are cross-curricular and meet several expectations from the Religious Education, English, the Arts, Canadian and World Studies, and Civics curricular areas. In this resource, the study of virtues will be through the lens of contemporary society. As we begin, we are challenged to use our beliefs and critical thinking to appreciate, discover, explore, and learn. Developing this dignified and respectful approach, we will be able to learn about and experience the virtues in a dynamic way and develop a greater appreciation and understanding of self, others, and the Divine

This resource was created to support the need for improvement in the teaching and learning of mathematics, while continuously embedding Catholic teachings in a variety of ways.
Due to the recent changes in the Ontario mathematics curriculum (Grades 1-8 and the Destreaming of Grade 9), the tasks in the resource have been updated to reflect all adjustments made to the overall and specific expectations.

EOCCC Math Inquiry

Through engagement with professionals and teaching practitioners from eastern Ontario Catholic School Boards we hoped to deepen our understanding of planning for effective mathematics assessment and instruction as well as professional learning models that support planning for effective mathematics assessment and instruction.

This digital resource is the culmination of this work and provides artifacts of our learning to model and illustrate effective mathematics assessment and instruction, including the co-creation of success criteria and development of rich learning tasks.
