Better Presentations with Touchcast

We will explore and teach the use of Touchcast for creating smart videos/interactive presentations. With simple, easily available technology, teachers can get students creating Ted Talks and other presentations that include pictures, maps, websites, videos and other interactive elements - and it is free for educators!

Learning environments are shifting thanks to the availability of technology for every student. How can we increase student success by improving student engagement in their own learning process? The successes and challenges of two different projects, where we leverage digital to challenge each student regardless of pathway level, will be shared. Examples of various digital tools will be modeled, including how to use them in several different curriculum environments.

Come see and hear how teachers planned effective mathematics instruction and assessment by developing learning experiences and lesson sequences for students in the primary, junior and intermediate (up to grade 9) divisions using a template co-created by the Ministry of Education and EOCCC. Videos which were produced, featuring teachers from our Catholic School Boards, will be launched for the first time and will be available to all on our eoccc.org website.

Let's take the learning outside!

We believe taking your class outside has a lot of benefits such as better mental health for students and educators, renewed social dynamics, and lots of opportunities for both inquiry-based and guided learning opportunities. We will present a wide range of learning activities that can take place outside throughout the year with an emphasis on integrated learning and embedding Indigenous awareness.

Teaching Art Through the Masters: a cross curricular study

Come hear how fostering civic engagement of our Catholic youth gives them voice and opportunities to demonstrate compassion for marginalized and at risk members of our community. Focus will be on Youth Ottawa’s Artistic Mentorship Program, a partnership with Poet Laureate Jamaal Jackson-Rogers; and, The Oak’s Project which fostered a relationship with the Ottawa Police Department, and clients of The Shepherd’s of Good Hope.

Exploring Number Sense Through A Kindergarten Lens

An organic way of introducing number concepts in the Kindergarten classroom. We will be focusing on number talks, games, provocations, and building a knowledge base around assessing children through observation at play and daily routines. We will show you how to use technology to capture student learning and make it visible to the Kindergarten team, students, parents and visitors throughout the school year thus, making reporting more efficient and less time consuming.

Critical Thinking and Collaboration with Breakout EDU Boxes

Critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication are all skills that students require as they attempt to solve a series of critical thinking puzzles in order to open various locks attached to a box. Falling under the Universal Design for Learning framework, Breakout EDU boxes can be used in various subject areas and grades to introduce, facilitate learning or review concepts being taught through the use of immersive learning games. Can you crack the code?

Making A Difference in Math through Maker Space

We will focus on how the use of a maker mindset in a classroom or learning commons can open up possibilities for exploration and enrichment that utilizes design thinking, iteration, and feedback. Participants will get to complete activities and use resources that are low tech and easily available to create a space where math thinking can be made visible and math concepts explored in meaningful ways for children.

How can we provide more opportunities for all our students to be reflective, creative and holistic thinkers? This workshop will have a deep focus on curriculum, differentiation and using thinking/application tasks to support the deepening of critical thinking and reasonableness. The EOCCC digital classroom math resource will be explored as a tool to support both teaching and learning of mathematics. Participants will explore research, resources and will engage in the process of creating rich thinking / application tasks.
