Sharing the Way-
(An
Introduction to the
Aboriginal World)
May 2009 |
Teacher Resource |
This
manual has been created
for the purpose of
providing background
information for teachers
and students as they
learn more about the
Aboriginal way. It is a
manual that very much
fits into our Catholic
philosophy. We are
called to nourish the
giftedness of each
individual and to
protect the dignity of
the whole person. We
work, live and believe
in an atmosphere of
inclusiveness and we are
taught to cherish our
role as global stewards. |

Affirming Catholic
Themes Through Mentor
Texts to Enrich Student
Writing
2010
|
Grade 1, 2 and 3 |
Affirming Catholic
Themes Through Mentor
Texts to Enrich Student
Writing was developed to
assist teachers with
teaching the traits of
writing while making
connections to Catholic
themes. This project has
its genesis in requests
from classroom teachers
for meaningful mentor
texts which would allow
for higher order
thinking and rich
writing opportunities.
Although these lessons
are organized according
to the traits of writing
and may be taught in
isolation for a
particular purpose, we
would like to remind
teachers of the
importance of quickly
integrating these
mini-lessons back into
the literacy block. The
traits of writing, the
writing process, and the
genres/forms/formats of
writing are
interconnected
components of effective
writing programs. This
primary writing project
has also placed a
greater emphasis on
connecting these lessons
to the purposes for
writing.
These anchor lessons are
not exhaustive in
nature, but rather, are
meant to provide
teachers with samples
showcasing how our
Catholic values can be
embedded in our daily
teaching. The hope is
that teachers would
continue to build on
these samples in order
to develop more powerful
writing programs. |

Online Catholic
Curriculum Framework -
Revised 2009 |
Teacher Resource |
One of the significant
themes presented by the
General Directory for
Catechesis (Sacred
Congregation for the
Clergy, Rome, 1997) is
the need for Catholic
educators to take every
advantage of the
contemporary insights of
the science of pedagogy.
As such, this tool,
Catholic Curriculum
Framework, embraces this
theme in its efforts to
create a meaningful
framework for classroom
teachers, which
integrates in a
comprehensive fashion,
the challenges of both
the Ministry of
Education curriculum
expectations and the
imperatives of our
Catholic faith. |

LESSON
PLANS FOR LITERACY:
ONTARIO WRITING
ASSESSMENT -Fall
2009 |
Teacher
Resource |
Overview
“Lesson Plans for
Literacy: The Ontario
Writing Assessment”
provides early, mid, and
end of year lesson plans
that are structured in
the same manner as those
found in the Ontario
Writing Assessment. This
project is a follow up
to the project
previously funded by the
EOCCC, “Lesson Plans for
Literacy: Linking PM
Benchmarks to Classroom
Strategies”, and “Lesson
Plans for Literacy:
Linking CASI to
Classroom Strategies”.
Each lesson plan in this
document follows the
Gradual Release of
Responsibility Model and
addresses one or more
expectations from both
the Ontario Reading
Curriculum and the
Catholic Graduate
Expectations (CGE’s).
For each lesson the most
obvious CGE’s have been
identified. Further
expectations can be
added based on the
resources, materials
and/or context in which
the lesson is delivered.
Each lesson also
provides suggestions for
differentiated
instruction. These
expectations can be
changed, modified or
expanded based on the
classroom circumstances.
Blackline masters, web
and print resources have
been identified or
developed for many of
the lessons. For your
convenience, blackline
masters follow the
lesson for which they
are to be used. |
