The cultivation of literacy skills is first and foremost on our minds these days. These CD’s titled Literacy: Strategies for Success, Grades
4-6 and Taking the Steps to Literacy, Supporting Literacy for Grades 7-9 focus on a variety of strategies that teachers have found to be effective in their classrooms. Each CD features six strategies, background and detailed information on how to effectively implement each one. Literacy: Strategies for Success, Grades 4-6 features: Literature Circles, Reading Aloud, Self-Selected Reading, Developing Vocabulary, Graphic Organizers and Modeling. Taking the Steps to Literacy, Supporting Literacy for Grades 7-9 features: Reading in the Content Areas, Graphic/Visual Organizers, Modeling, Developing New Vocabulary, Small Group Work and Questioning. An accompanying manual provides the teacher with additional information and black line masters to assist in the implementation process. Ideally, we would like to visit one another’s classrooms; however, this is not always possible but these CD’s allow you to observe the classroom in action and listen to the discussion of teachers on how they implemented the chosen strategies in their classrooms.
